It has been seven years since Cameron Diaz appeared on the big screen, but the former Hollywood actress has said she is in no rush to return to acting. Appearing on US radio show “Quarantined with Bruce” on Thursday to promote her new wine brand, the 48-year-old star revealed that becoming a mother had shifted her priorities. 

“Will I ever make a movie again? I’m not looking to, but will I? I don’t know. I have no idea. Maybe. Never say never,” Diaz said.”But I couldn’t imagine being a mom now where I’m at as a mother, with my child at her first year, to have to be on a movie set that takes 14 hours, 16 hours of my day away from my child.” Diaz married Good Charlotte singer Benji Madden in 2015.

The couple have a one-year-old daughter together, called Raddix. “I just feel so blessed that I get to be here now with my child and, you know, get to be the mother that I get to be,” she said. “It’s such a blessing, it’s completely privileged, and I’m just really, really grateful.” 

With retirement long in her rear-view, Diaz is currently focused on motherhood and Avaline — the organic wine brand she started with fashion entrepreneur Katherine Power last year. “Avaline is the only day-to-day work that I’m doing other than being a wife and a mother which has been the most… it really has been the most fulfilling part of my life so far.” In August last year Diaz — who is best known for her roles in “The Mask” (1994), “There’s Something About Mary” (1998) and “Vanilla Sky” (2001) — revealed she found “peace” in her “soul” after walking away from her Hollywood career. “I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life. I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films and it’s such a grind,” she said during an appearance on Gwyneth Paltrow’s “In Goop Health: The Sessions” series. Her last movie appearance of her 20-year career came in the 2014 adaptation of “Annie.”

For fans who weren’t already aware, Cameron Diaz hasn’t acted in a film since 2014. In 2017, she confirmed that she had retired from acting. But in that time, Cam also got married (to Benji Madden), wrote a book, and started making wine, confirmed Rolling Stone.

That’s not all she did during her acting hiatus, though.

In 2019, Cameron and Benji welcomed baby Raddix via surrogate. After decades of will-she or won’t-she in terms of debates over whether Cameron would pursue motherhood, fans finally had their answer.

And though she’s been out of the spotlight lately, it’s true that Cameron did “retire” long before Raddix was born. But with the emergence of her “clean wine” brand plus some public appearances, fans are now wondering whether Cameron’ll return to the big screen, now that motherhood and entrepreneurship are apparently keeping her pretty busy.

Though Cameron’s staggering net worth means she doesn’t have to work, fans wouldn’t mind seeing her in another movie or two (or more). The multi-talented actress has had many notable roles over the years. And yet, there’s one thing that makes her nervous about acting.

As Celeb Answers revealed, though Cameron has tackled some challenging roles, she really fears singing on camera. While co-stars say she’s plenty talented, there is that one ‘My Best Friend’s Wedding’ karaoke scene… But that was fake and “deliberately bad,” says Celeb Answers.

Yet, Cameron claims that the “bad” singing voice she used was closer to reality than the other voices she’s applied to her acting roles. But with a long list of voice acting jobs on her resume (like Fiona in ‘Shrek’), it’s hard to believe that Cameron’s voice is really that terrible.

Cameron Diaz herself admitted that she was super nervous to sing in her last project, 2014’s ‘Annie.’ But with the help of voice coaches and other pros, she was able to pull it off. Before that, though, her singing experience was a bit limited, and it always made her nervous.

Case in point? 1994’s ‘The Mask’ showed Diaz singing, but it was really lip-syncing; another singer recorded the vocals, while Cameron played up the performance.

A few assorted on-screen singing gigs over the years have helped Cameron calm her nerves, but co-stars ribbed her about having stage fright.

It’s interesting that one of the industry’s most famous and sought-after actresses has a fear of performing. But to hear Cameron tell it, it sounds like she overcame the challenges in ‘Annie,’ and may not shy away from opportunities to flex her vocals in the future.

That is, if she re-enters Hollywood again in the future, which fans would be all over.

If there’s one department within Marvel Studios that is absolutely nailing its job, it’s the casting team. Just look at how tough it is for us to let members of the original cast – like Robert Downey Jr. – go, as we embrace the next wave of superheroes and supervillains. The proof is in the pudding, and they’ve definitely earned our trust when it comes to cherry-picking the new generation of on-screen characters. With that established, let’s get right into it.

According to sources close to WGTC – the same ones who told us Taskmaster would be the villain in Black Widow and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier would be delayed, both of which were correct – the latest actor being eyed to portray an MCU role is none other than Cameron Diaz. Yes, the very same Cameron Diaz of Charlie’s Angels and Being John Malkovich fame. It’s unclear if she’s actually been approached yet, but we’re told that if they can convince her to come out of retirement, they’d love to have her on board.

So, who would Diaz be playing if she does join the world of Marvel? Well, she’s reportedly being considered to play the villainous role of Thanos’ love interest Mistress Death from the comic books, a character we expected to see somewhere along the Infinity Saga but ultimately never showed. Where she might appear first, we don’t yet know, but Mad Titan co-creator Jim Starlin certainly thinks that her inclusion is likely now more than ever, as Marvel gets ready to step into the realm of the strange – no pun intended – with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

In Marvel Comics, Thanos’ real motivation for collecting the Infinity Stones and wiping out half the population of the universe is to impress Mistress Death. Without that particular narrative though, the movies will need to adjust the lore to accommodate her existence, but that’s something that they’ve already been doing, so it shouldn’t be too hard.

Maybe the rumored Thanos prequel TV series will build some of that history between the two villains before she appears in the MCU movies. Regardless of the route they take, it sounds like Josh Brolin’s purple giant will return to plague the world again in future Phases of the franchise.

After 20 years of starring in hits like Charlie’s Angels, There’s Something About Mary, and the 2014 Annie remake, Cameron Diaz decided to officially retire from Hollywood. However, in the time that has passed since her last onscreen role, the actress is now open to possibly making a comeback if the universe brings the right project her way.

Diaz appeared in a special edition of Makeup & Friends, a Westman Atelier-produced webseries. When celebrity makeup artist and close friend Gucci Westman mentioned the fact that the world really would like to see Diaz return to acting, the star had a surprising response.

“Look, I’m never going to say never,” Diaz replied to Westman’s delight. “I’m not a person who says never about anything.”

The new admission isn’t the first time that Diaz has hinted that an acting comeback could be in the cards given the right circumstances. Last year, the actress shared a candid personal essay that explained exactly why she had decided to step away in the first place, saying that her “semi-retirement” had come after years of “[giving] half her life to the public.”

“I feel it’s OK for me to take time for myself now to reorganize and choose how I want to come [back] into the world,” she wrote in Instyle. “If I decide to. I don’t miss performing.”
“[W]hatever I do, it has to be something I’m passionate about,” Diaz continued in the public letter. “Something that just feels effortless.”

While it’s definitely a reach to expect the 47-year-old to return to Hollywood right this moment — she’s current having the time of her life with Benji Madden and their daughter Raddix — we can rest easy knowing that the door is still open, even if it’s just a little bit. No pressure, Cameron, but we miss you.
